Here come the Russians (part4)

I think Evolution is responsible for everything it is right now and will continue to transform life, us. Sometimes and earth quake, a schism takes place and everyone is running in all directions, screaming. When the dust from their feet and the noise from their lungs settles and dies out, Evolution picks up the thread, from wherever it was dropped. Most of our (Western) contemporary art is that scream of agony. This is why it doesnt resonate in me, doesnt touch me with the beauty that serious Art does.
Here's the work of a Russian student, living as we speak, in Russia, studying at the Art Academy. I hope his soul will not be devoured by the bitch Goddess of fame. I hope his days in training will beget works of art which will stand tall, when the rubble is cleaned.

Romulus (feb 2012)

Romulus, brother of Remus, who founded the Great Rome. According to the legend, the baby boys were raised by a she-wolf, who found them abandoned in a basket. However, “she-wolf” was (and still is in some parts of Italy) the nickname for a prostitute. The woman was hiding in the forests along Via Appia and howling like a she-wolf in heat, to let the clients know where she was. See also La Dolce Vita, the scene where Anita Ekberg howls like a she-wolf.

White on Black

Not the first time I say to myself I won't draw on black paper. And then I come back, trying again to master this complicated method.
Usually, one draws on a lighter background, pushing the shadows with a darker pencil. Here is the complete opposite, you come from dark and bring out the body into the light. You must think in "negative" and even so, the gradation of tone is not easy to modulate.
